Introduction
Amsterdam University Press (AUP) and the University Library (UB) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) have jointly realised the worldwide on-line availability of PhD dissertations and the delivery of printed copies by Printing on Demand.
The UB has created a digital infrastructure for the archiving and making available of the scientific output of the UvA. Within the framework of the project UvA-DARE (see http://dare.uva.nl/) the UB makes the content of the PhD dissertations available in a worldwide network of scholarly institutions already sharing research resources. In this way, the international visibility of the PhD UvA dissertations has increased and can be accessed worldwide.
AUP has added a service to UvA-DARE to deliver on a single-copy basis (via ‘Printing on Demand’) for the interested public anywhere on the planet. Besides, the dissertations will be printed in the volume that the PhD student needs for the examination ceremony. AUP will manage the production process, distribution and publicity, so that the dissertation will reach its audience. AUP will also ensure that the dissertation can be ordered in book stores and that all titles will be available through various international sites. Production and distribution will take place at the nearest printing facility, either in the USA, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands or Australia.
Soon institutions and PhD students outside the UvA will be able to join our programme.
Searching and ordering
On this site you need to go to the search page; you can get there via the menu 'Catalogue' and the item 'Search'. Of course you can search for a specific author of title; you can also search for dissertations by the entry of the word ‘dissertation’ in the field ‘series’. You will then be lead to the titles which you can select and subsequently order.
